UFC 226 is definitely shaping up to be an legendary showdown between two of MMA’s elite fighters when Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier square away in the main event for the UFC heavyweight title. With plenty of time to controversy and consider all angles from the fight, fellow pros and professionals have given their takes on who else they think will walk away successful on Saturday night with the belt. We have compiled answers to this issue from former heavyweight champions plus experts alike ahead of the main event on T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Din Jones: DC’s extremely intelligent, and an excellent competitor that can grind, but We don’t think he can box with Stipe. That doesn’t mean he can’t impact with him, but he cannot box with him. He can obtain a couple punches off on his method to a takedown or off the takedown, but if it comes down to Daniel Cormier can’t take Stipe straight down and he’s forced to stand plus box with him, he’s going to drop that fight.
Bas Rutten: It’s a quite difficult one to call because Stipe provides great footwork, but can he or she stop the relentless pushing ahead from Cormier? That’s what he or she and [teammate and wrestling coach] Cain Velasquez is going to do. (“The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast)
Cain Velasquez: DC needs to use his power. He can wrestle really well. He’s actually fast in his exchanges with boxing and he kicks, too. He’s an extremely complete fighter and it’s hard to handle DC because he goes forward a great deal and puts a lot of pressure upon. He just makes it really tough. (MMAFighting)
Junior 2 Santos: That’s a tough fight for each of them. The way that DC arguements is very effective but boring as they doesn’t allow you to do anything. As soon as he grabs you, he will consider you down and he’s going to cause you to tired or knock you away or finish you. Â
Ricco Rodriguez: I seriously feel Daniel Cormier is going to provide some major problems to your pet and that’s because styles make arguements. I don’t think he even must take it to the ground because their standup is superb.
Muhamed ‘King Mo’ Lawal: Here is one thing people have a tendency really notice about Daniel — he fights small. When you are combating a guy that fights small such as Daniel and you throw your jab, you are there to get countered like whenever Daniel fought “Bigfoot” [Silva]. The way in which Daniel fights small, he has excellent cardio and wrestling, and excellent control in the upper-body clinch. Personally i think like Stipe gasses. I feel whenever Stipe gets frustrated, you can see this in his face and he starts to stroll off and fights against the competition. I think Daniel will take advantage of might Daniel will beat him. Â
Dos Santos: I don’t think Stipe has the greatest cardio, so I don’t think its an excellent fight for him. I hope he’s creating a lot of money because he’s not successful anything. His belt is at risk. Nothing from Cormier is at risk, just Miocic. I hope he’s creating a lot of money and he can go there plus throw some bombs against DC to make the fight more interesting. Â
Randy Couture: I think if Daniel will find a way to make Stipe Miocic battle him as much as possible during the course of that combat, it’s going to be a good night for your pet. If Stipe uses his variety and striking IQ to keep Daniel off of him, it could be a good evening for Stipe. It’s one of those arguements, toss a coin, who’s likely to win. I’m a wrestler, therefore i tend to feel like that wrestling pedigree is going to work well for Daniel. Yet Stipe’s one of the toughest guys available. He’s a great fighter. (MMANytt)
Miocic: My fumbling probably doesn’t [get the respect it deserves] because I am just mostly standing up. But it’s right now there. And wrestling and UFC are usually two totally different things. DC continues to be taken down in his fights, too. A possibility that he just goes out there will not what he wants and requires anyone down all the time. It comes right down to timing. I’m 100 percent certain of my wrestling and won’t provide him opportunities to take me down. When he does, I’m going to get back upward.
Fabricio Werdum: I like Cormier, but We don’t believe he beats Stipe Miocic. If Stipe Miocic has a great moment now, he’s a big man, I don’t see how Daniel is better than him. I see the fight probably for a decision for Stipe Miocic or he punch, punch, impact and maybe the referee stops the particular fight. It will be so hard for Daniel. He’s not a big man therefore i don’t know how [he wins].
Dos Santos: The way I see it, DC is most likely gonna take him down, create him tired and finish the particular fight. But of course , we are referring to the heavyweight champion, and with Stipe, anything is possible.
